Eat healthy foods in winter months such as homemade vegetable soup add fresh parsley, garlic and mushrooms. Garlic, onions, and other "allium" vegetables have potent antimicrobial and antifungal properties. Mushrooms are high in minerals especially potassium, shiitake is the most practical. Parsley is one of the world's seven most potent disease-fighting spices which also include Ginger, Oregano, Cinnamon, Turmeric, Sage, and Red chili peppers. Parsley has high vitamin C, beta carotene, B12, chlorophyll and essential fatty acid content render it an extraordinary immunity enhancing food. Increase the intake of fresh seasonal vegetables and fruits. They will supplement your body with the vitamins and minerals and hence help in building the immune system. Do not depend on vitamins and mineral supplements in your daily routine. You can get that from fresh vegetables and fruits. Increase the intake of fiber rich food instead of fat or carbohydrate rich items. For example sweet potato instead of white potato. We tend to reduce the water intake in winters. Try taking lukewarm water whenever you feel the need. Force yourself to have more water than you actually feel like add fresh lemon for flavor. Fill pepper shaker with red pepper. Cayenne has antioxidant properties and strengthens immune system. Exercise, hygiene and good night's sleep are also important. In winter months people tend to eat more and exercise less.
