Pastor Plans 'Burn a Koran Day'—September 11

(Newser)  – A Florida pastor whose Bible is apparently missing the page that explains the Golden Rule has big plans for the ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks—his church will play host to "International Burn a Koran Day." The Dove World Outreach Center, which is known for the "Islam Is of the Devil" sign on its lawn in Gainesville, says Islam is "a violent and oppressive religion," Kyle Munzenrieder blogs for Miami New Times.

The pastor, Terry Jones, tells Religion News Service supporters have been mailing copies of the Koran to the church. Jones and his congregation have vehemently protested the election of a gay man as mayor of Gainesville, notes Edge Boston. They plan another event, for next month, cleverly named "No Homo Mayor." Asks Munzenrieder: "The Westboro Baptist Church currently holds the title of most insane thing purporting to be a Christian church in America, but could a small congregation of horribly misguided Christians in central Florida soon be taking their place?" For more on Westboro Baptist's recent escapades, click here.

Real Christianity doesn't teach hate, so I doubt they are real Christians either.

Just because they sit in a church does not make them Christians--just like sitting in a garage doesn't make them cars!

You will know them by their fruits...

They sound like they are all "fruits".  It sounds pretty "nuts" to me.

(And I lived in California for years.  What the heck is going on there in FLA?)

"Ground Zero Mosque" -- now this.  Sure are getting the neoconned all fired up.

Iran?

This wrong but not for the reasons being stated. As a real Christian I hate the koran and Islam. They are abominations to God. The reason the burning is wrong is that Christ isn't judging the world at this time and so any Christian acting in that character is out of place. That also goes for all those Christian patriots who are taking up arms to fight the NWO.

I live, shop, eat, play and talk with Muslims on a daily basis.

the muslims i have spoken to,
understand that the usgovt is after their destruction,
NOT the american people.

Then i read sick stories like this.

I agree with the writer of the article:
As Christians we are called by Christ to follow the golden rule.

Florida pastor not backing down on Koran-burning

GAINESVILLE, Florida (Reuters) - An obscure U.S. Christian pastor whose plan to burn copies of the Koran on September 11 has sparked an international outcry said on Wednesday he would go ahead with the event despite warnings it would endanger American troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Pastor Terry Jones, leader of a tiny Protestant church in Gainesville, Florida, which campaigns against what it calls "radical Islam," is facing a barrage of calls from U.S. government, military and religious leaders, and from abroad, to cancel plans to publicly burn Islam's holy book.

"We are not convinced that backing down is the right thing," Jones, a gray-haired, mustachioed preacher and author of a book titled "Islam is of the Devil," told a crowd of reporters in a brief statement made in the grassy yard in front of his stone-and-metal church.

"A burning of the Koran is to call attention that something is wrong," said Jones, wearing a gray suit and a tie.

"We need to stand up and confront terrorism," he added, referring to the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States by militant Islamist group al Qaeda.

The planned Koran-burning on the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks has attracted worldwide condemnation and touched off protests in Afghanistan and Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim country.

Top U.S. military commanders have warned the event could trigger violent retaliation against American troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.

"We would of course be very, very moved and very sad by that, but we would not feel responsible ... We are not going to be controlled by fears and threats," Jones later told CNN.

Law enforcement officials say Jones has already received death threats from suspected extremists, a development which had been anticipated in August by the FBI.

An FBI intelligence bulletin dated August 19 assessed "with high confidence that, as with past incidents perceived as acts of desecration against Islam, extremist actors will continue to threaten or attempt to harm the leaders, organizers or attendees of the (Koran burning) event," according to an FBI document seen by Reuters.

"It may also inspire retaliatory attacks against U.S. facilities overseas," the FBI bulletin said, but it added the agency had no information at that time to indicate that a specific attack had been planned.

"THINK OF US AS CRAZY"

The planned event comes near the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan and amid heightened tensions in the United States over a proposal to build an Islamic cultural center and mosque near the site of the 2001 World Trade Center attacks in New York. Opponents of the building plan say it is insensitive to families of the victims of the attacks.

With anger growing in Afghanistan over the proposed Koran-burning, Afghan police went on alert to guard against more protests. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said he was "deeply disturbed" and the Vatican also joined a growing chorus of global criticism.

Jones said that despite the worldwide outcry, he had received phone calls of support, including some from serving members in the U.S. armed forces.

One of his associate pastors carried a holstered gun.

The pastor's son, Luke Jones, said the church had about 200 Korans to burn -- some sent by supporters, the rest purchased. "We want to confront a religion we believe is leading people to hell ... Think of us as crazy. That's up to you," he said.

An imam from a local Florida Muslim group was present during Jones' statement and later entered the church to urge him to call off the event, quoting Bible verses and encouraging him to follow Jesus' teaching of "love your enemy".

"I strongly believe at the end of the day he will make the right step and call off the event" Muhammad Musri, head of the Islamic Society for Central Florida, told reporters.

In Washington, the Council on American-Islamic Relations said it would announce on Thursday an initiative, called "Learn, Don't Burn", to distribute 200,000 Koran texts to replace the 200 copies that the Florida church plans to burn.

FRINGE GROUP

Official criticism of the event intensified.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates "strongly endorsed" the view of his military commanders that any Koran-burning plan could endanger U.S. lives.

"We hope that the world will appreciate that this is the action of a very small fringe group and does not represent the views of the United States or Americans as a whole," said State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley.

Canadian Defense Minister Peter MacKay, whose country has nearly 3,000 troops in Afghanistan, also condemned the event.

On Tuesday, several high-ranking Obama administration officials, including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, had spoken out against it, and leading Christian and Jewish leaders also voiced outrage.

Sarah Palin, a critic of the planned Islamic center in New York, called on the pastor to stand down on Wednesday.

In a Facebook posting, the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate called the Koran burning "insensitive and an unnecessary provocation - much like building a mosque at Ground Zero."

Authorities in Gainesville say they are tightening security for Saturday's action at Jones' church, which is called the Dove World Outreach Center. Local police say it is believed to have only around 30 members.

U.S. officials say that First Amendment constitutional rights guaranteeing freedom of speech, assembly and religion prevent them from prohibiting the event.

But local authorities have warned Jones he would violate city ordinances if he went ahead without proper authorization. City officials have denied his request for a burn permit.

In Iran, the planned Koran-burning drew protest from a leading cleric. "I along with 1.5 billion Muslims ... condemn this brutal and savage spirit ... I warn about its consequences," Grand Ayatollah Lotfollah Safi-Golpaygani told Iran's Students News Agency ISNA.

Mosques, Book Burnings, Collectivism and War Worship

By Anthony Gregory on Sep 8, 2010

http://www.independent.org/blog/index.php?p=7803

The Cordoba House Islamic community center, scheduled for construction on private land within a few blocks of where the Twin Towers once stood, has drawn ire from many Americans, many of whom have provocatively called it the “Ground Zero Mosque” and have condemned it as offensive, and many of whom have called on the government to step in and prevent the center’s construction, in violation of both the private property rights of the owner of the land as well as the principles of religious toleration that make America a great country.

Defenders of the construction project have pointed out that the building is not a mosque, but a community center — essentially a Muslim version of the YMCA. Opponents have snapped back that the building will in fact have a mosque in it.

But according to Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, who is spearheading the project, the center will also include separate places of prayer for Christians and Jews. And while some have said the project’s backers should instead give money to a 9/11 memorial, the Imam says the center will also have “a multifaith memorial dedicated to victims of the Sept. 11 attacks.”

Some have pointed out the supposed bad taste of building any sort of house of Muslim prayer near Ground Zero, but this assumes that Islam was the culprit on 9/11. It wasn’t. And even moderate defenders of the “Ground Zero mosque” will try to differentiate between radical and moderate Islam—but radical Islam is not really the reason behind the 9/11 attacks, either. The motivation was revenge for U.S. foreign policy, and although that certainly doesn’t excuse the atrocity, there is nothing unique about Islam, fundamentalist or not, that is needed to explain this act of revenge. As Robert Pape’s extensive research decisively shows, even the particularly gruesome spectacle of suicide bombing has little to do with religious extremism per se—many suicide bombers are not Muslim and even secular—and much more to do with resistance against a foreign occupier.

When Americans went to war after 9/11, revenge was a motivator there, too. But Americans’ religion had little to do with it. When Israel invaded Lebanon in 2006, this too was likely an act of revenge (or as some would claim, self-defense) against Hezbollah. The fact that the Israelis were mostly Jewish was not the major factor. Geopolitics and war in the region, as well as in U.S. conflicts with the Muslim world, do relate to religious questions. But it is not Islam, or Christianity, or Judaism, that is responsible for these acts of violence.

The Lebanese seem to understand this distinction, as they appear to support the reconstruction of a synagogue that was destroyed in the Israeli invasion of their country in 2006. Lebanon’s own “Ground Zero” synagogue is a good example for Americans of how to distinguish between belligerents that attack your country and the religion they happen to belong to.

Newt Gingrich bellowed that so long as Saudi Arabia doesn’t allow churches or synagogues, Americans shouldn’t tolerate a mosque near Ground Zero. As though this should be our standard. But in any event, while many Muslim nations are quite theocratic, a few do allow relative freedom for Christians and Jews. Sharia law does not bind non-Muslims in Kazakhstan, Turkey and Mali. The world’s Muslims are not a monolith, and if the Lebanese don’t hold Israel’s belligerence against their small Jewish minority—as they shouldn’t—then neither should Americans hold the violence of some Saudis and Egyptians on 9/11 (all hailed from these nations, our allies) against our much bigger Muslim minority. Nor should we hold it against the Muslims in the rest of the world—in Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran or Pakistan—who have nothing to do with 9/11 at all.

Meanwhile, some Americans are planning to burn the Quran on 9/11 this year. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and General David Patraeus are right that this is an incendiary act—far more intentionally offensive, it would seem to me, than the mosque building—and that it could motivate more Muslims to hate Americans. But as Ron Paul points out, such U.S. officials are ignoring the real American-caused incitement of anti-American violence and terrorism: U.S. foreign policy. It is foolish, offensive, ugly, stupid and probably immoral for Americans to burn the Quran in such a display of religious animosity. But on the other hand, at least these Americans are planning to destroy their own private property—the U.S. military and State Department, as a matter of course, loot and destroy the private property of other people, Americans and foreigners alike. Worse, U.S. wars have killed hundreds of thousands of foreigners in just the last decade or so. This is by far the bigger problem, and Hillary and the general should focus on what they can do to reduce anti-American hatred. Burning the Quran is terrible. But bombing and burning foreign mosques and killing women and children would seem to me much worse, by practically any moral standard.

Moreover, this whole notion that Ground Zero is “hallowed ground” is itself religiously offensive to me, and should be offensive to anyone who subscribes to Christianity or any other major religion. The U.S. government is not sacred. The lives lost on 9/11 were of course of infinite worth. But to single out a spot of blowback against U.S. wars—a spot that was jumped upon to launch ever more wars and the expansion of the U.S. government—and call it “hallowed ground” evokes religious imagery and feeling in a potentially blasphemous way. But in America, while Muslims pray in fear and even Christians, the majority, are harassed about their faith—where distinct minorities like fundamentalist Mormons and Branch Davidians are deprived of their families or even their right to live—worship of the U.S. government is the most protected “religious” freedom. Indeed, this is why we’re supposed to be completely enraged when foreigners burn the American flag, and yet not even bothered when American interrogators desecrate the Quran as they are conducting “enhanced interrogation techniques” against U.S. captives. It is why any disrespect of the U.S. Armed Forces is sacrilege in America, even as almost no Americans are aware that U.S. marines—the “best and the brightest”—spray-painted their motto “Semper Fi” onto the walls of the 4,000-year-old Ziggurat of Ur after they “liberated” the ancient Sumerian city, the Cradle of Civilization itself, as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Religion might be part of the particular motivation of every major side in the wars and terrorism of today, but it is the secular religion of collectivism, the civic religion of statism, that is most philosophically responsible for all this violence, and that has allowed people to reject their own religious teachings not to kill the innocent for what they have convinced themselves is the pursuit of the greater good. Utilitarianism and materialism and the worship of the worldly, not the spiritual, are the main problem here.

Religious freedom is under attack. Property rights are a thing of the past. A baseline of civility is absent in the way so many Americans have continued to respond to the terrorist attacks nine years ago. And worst of all, the U.S. government has continued its **** of mass killing—in Afghanistan, in Iraq, and into Pakistan and who knows where next—demonstrating that the most important lessons of 9/11 have yet to be learned.

Neo-Nazi rally was organized by FBI informant

Henry Pierson Curtis
Orlando Sentinal
February 15, 2007

A paid FBI informant was the man behind a neo-Nazi march through the streets of Parramore that stirred up anxiety in Orlando's black community and fears of racial unrest that triggered a major police mobilization.

That revelation came Wednesday in an unrelated federal court hearing and has prompted outrage from black leaders, some of whom demanded an investigation into whether the February 2006 march was, itself, an event staged by law-enforcement agencies.

Seven Retards Return For War On Terror Show Trial
FBI provocateurs tried to get "dipshits in a warehouse" to blow up Sears Tower

Paul Joseph Watson
Prison Planet
October 3, 2007

The prosecution's argument that "seven men plotted to bring down the U.S. government by poisoning saltshakers and bombing landmark buildings" in the trial of the "Liberty City Seven" underscores the ludicrous pretense of the "war on terror" and the callous obedience with which the media unquestionably report this farce.

Let's go over a brief refresher course on the details of the alleged plot to blow up Chicago's Sears Tower.

Seven semi-retarded pot smoking wannabe gang member rastafarians in a warehouse are approached by two FBI agents posing as Al-Qaeda terrorists and promised $50,000 if they start talking about waging a "holy war" in America.

One of the plots the ringleader dreams up, in his infinite wisdom, is to march to the White House, knock on the door, and announce "here I am."

The gang decide to go along with the agents in a bid to con them out of the money before disappearing, at which point the announcement that a "plot to overthrow the government" has been averted is saturated across the media as another sterling reason why the war on terror is so necessary.

After the true capability of the retards becomes the butt of a national joke (John Stewart labeled them "seven dipshits in a warehouse"), the Feds have to admit that the plot was "aspirational rather than operational," and posed no real threat because they had neither al Qaeda contacts nor means of carrying out attacks," as reported today by Reuters.

"Defense lawyers said the charges were "nonsense" scripted by the government and orchestrated by paid FBI informants they called Conman No. 1 and Conman No. 2," the report continues.

In almost every single major terror bust or sting that we have covered, the individuals providing the rhetoric, the means and money to actually foment and carry out a terrorist plot have been government informants and provocateurs.

Exactly As We Predicted; Deadly NY Terror Cell Are Semi-Retarded Potheads

As in ever other major case, terror group hyped by media turn out to be low IQ bums radicalized by federal provocateurs

Paul Joseph Watson
Prison Planet.com
May 22, 2009

Exactly as we predicted in our headline story yesterday, two of the ringleaders in the “deadly” New York terror plot salaciously hyped by the media and government officials have turned out to be semi-retarded potheads.

“The men will likely turn out to be semi-retarded dropouts,” we stated in our article yesterday, basing our forecast on the fact that in every other major terror sting in the west given so much prominence by officials and the corporate media, the poor suckers rounded up by the feds always turn out to be low IQ petty criminals down on their luck, provocateured and armed by federal agents.

We already knew that the men were provided with an inert rocket launcher and fake C4 explosives by an FBI informant, and now as more details emerge, our original summation of the case is proving accurate.

According to an Associated Press report, the four men charged with planning to blow up synagogues and military planes, “Were amateurs every step of the way. They had trouble finding guns and bought cameras at Wal-Mart to photograph their targets. One was a convicted purse snatcher, another smoked marijuana the day the plot was to be carried out.”

The report continues,”Relatives said the defendants were down-on-their-luck men who worked at places like Wal-Mart, a landscaping company and a warehouse when they weren’t behind bars. Payen’s lawyer said he was “intellectually challenged” and on medication for schizophrenia. Marilyn Reader said he has “a very low borderline” IQ.”

Hal Turner a Trained FBI Agent Provocateur

Kurt Nimmo
Infowars
August 18, 2009

Radio talk show host and blogger Hal Turner was an FBI trained agent provocateur, his attorney told reporters in Hartford today. The supposed white supremacist worked for the agency from 2002 until 2007. “His job was basically to publish information which would cause other parties to act in a manner which would lead to their arrest,” Michael Orozco told the Associated Press.

Earlier this year Turner told his blog readers to “take up arms” against Connecticut lawmakers. He also said government officials should “obey the Constitution or die.” In June he wrote that the Illinois federal appeals judges “deserve to be killed” because they issued a ruling that upheld ordinances in Chicago and suburban Oak Park banning handguns. Turner included photos of the judges and the room numbers of their chambers at the courthouse.

As Predicted, FBI Agent Discovered at Center of Alleged Hutaree Conspiracy

Kurt Nimmo
Infowars.com
March 31, 2010

On Monday we asked you to count the hours before links to the feds emerged on this one – turns out it was 48.

The FBI had an informant inside the Hutaree group and he participated in the alleged conspiracy to kill law enforcement officers, according to The Wall Street Journal today.

In sworn testimony, Thomas William Piatek is described as a Cooperating Witness and an undercover FBI agent.

Thomas William Piatek is pictured at the bottom right. It is interesting to note that, unlike the other suspects, he appears not to be wearing a jail uniform.

“A spokesperson at the FBI’s Detroit office declined to comment on the undercover agent and any role such an agent may have had in the investigation. A spokesman at the Justice Department in Washington also declined to discuss specifics of the investigation,” the Journal reports.

It is not surprising that the FBI had penetrated the Hutaree group and an agent was apparently at the center of the alleged conspiracy. In fact, it is part of a well established pattern.

On March 20, Infowars.com reported on allegations that a federal agent acted as a provocateur in the New York synagogue bombing conspiracy case. Defense attorneys in the case argued in court that the plot was hatched and directed by a federal informant.

“They said the informant badgered the defendants until they got involved in the plot,” NBC New York reported. “They said the informant chose the targets, supplied fake bombs for the synagogues and a fake missile to shoot down planes. The motion said he also offered to pay the defendants, who attorneys alleged weren’t inclined toward any crime until the informant began recruiting them.”

“This whole operation was a foolish waste of time and money,” Terence Kindlon, a defense lawyer who represented a client in the New York synagogue case, told the Times Online. “It is almost as if the FBI cooked up the plot and found four idiots to install as defendants.”

Defendants in the New Jersey Fort Dix Army terror case painted a similar picture. “The only terrorist conspiracy was one planted and nurtured by the informant,” declared defense attorney Rocco Cip during the trial. The FBI’s role in the case was admitted by a provocateur. “The FBI informant paid to infiltrate a band of suspected terrorists in South Jersey said yesterday that he offered to organize their attack on U.S. soldiers, but only because he wanted to build trust and find out more about the group,” the Star-Ledger reported on November 11, 2008.

In Miami, the FBI case against the so-called Miami Seven came apart at the seams when it was discovered a government provocateur provided money, video cameras for conducting surveillance, cellphones, and suggested that the patsies target the Miami FBI office.

In 2009, it was discovered that supposed white supremacist and radio talk show host Hal Turner was a National Security Intelligence asset, a fact admitted by the third highest ranking FBI official in New York City. During a second trial held this year, Turner described how he was recruited in 2003 by the FBI’s Newark-based Joint Terrorism Task Force. He said he was paid “in excess of $100,000” by the FBI during his almost five years as an informant.

False Flag Terror Of The New World Order
Methods used to facilitate staged attacks

Paul Joseph Watson
Prison Planet
December 12, 2006

The fact that states, intelligence and security agencies engage in false flag staged terror to further political agendas is documented throughout history, but it's too naive to simply characterize every act as an "inside job." Different methods are utilized to facilitate attacks using three different basic templates.

1) Unwitting Dupes

In this case, role players are used to test "security responses" by being told they are part of an exercise for a dummy terrorist attack, an operation that will help the state prevent similar attacks in future. The controllers tell the unwitting dupes that no harm will come to them and that their help will be greatly rewarded.

- London Bombings

The 7/7 bombings are a prime example of the unwitting dupes method. Mohammed Siddique Khan, the alleged ringleader of the 7/7 London bombings, was working for British intelligence agency MI5 as an informant at the time of the attacks. Family and friends described the accused bombers as friendly, westernized and having no interest in politics. Metropolitan police career experts in criminal psychology concluded that the bombers' behavior clearly indicated they did not know they were about to die. In an impossible coincidence, the attack paralleled a security drill that targeted the exact same locations at the exact same time. This is a clear example of where unwitting dupes were told that the operation was a security test and yet were strapped with real bombs and a real attack took place.

2) Provocateurs & Patsies

This is by far the most used method. In this case, radicals with past ties to terrorist groups are hired as informants to infiltrate mainly Islamic political groups and encourage them to carry out acts of terror. In almost every case, the materials required to carry out the attack are directly provided by intelligence agencies or via the hired provocateur. Agent provocateurs also take the guise of undercover government agents, who radicalize otherwise harmless groups over a long period of time and provide financial and material support and safe passage for the group to carry out the attack.

- 1993 WTC Bombing

The first World Trade Center bombing was provocateured by the government. In 1993 the FBI planted their informant, Emad A. Salem, within a radical Arab group in New York led by Ramzi Yousef. Salem was ordered to encourage the group to carry out a bombing targeting the World Trade Center's twin towers. Under the illusion that the project was a sting operation, Salem asked the FBI for harmless dummy explosives which he would use to assemble the bomb and then pass on to the group. At this point the FBI cut Salem out of the loop and provided the group with real explosives, leading to the attack on February 26 that killed six and injured over a thousand. The FBI's failure to prevent the bombing was reported on by the New York Times in October 1993.

3) Complete Complicity

Acts of complete complicity, where the state controls and dictates the attack every step of the way, are only used for major bellwether terrorist atrocities with clearly defined and planned outcomes. Pre-arranged patsies are set-up to take the fall for the attack, but they play very little or no role whatsoever in actually carrying out the attack. 9/11 is the obvious example, but another major case where this method was first used dates back to the 1950's.

- Bombing Campaign Against Mossadegh's Iran

Kermit Roosevelt admitted on NPR radio that in 1953 the CIA and British intelligence carried out a wave of bombings and shootings in Iran to overthrow the democratically elected Premier following Mossadegh's declaration that he would nationalize foreign oil holdings. He then went on to brag about how they subsequently blamed the bombings on Mossadegh himself. The CIA's own account of the overthrow, reported on by the New York Times in April 2000, states that the agency "directed a campaign of bombings" as part of the coup d’état.

Provocative Behavior: Pertinent Concerns Over the Burning of Korans

by Chris Floyd

September 9, 2010

http://www.chris-floyd.com/articles/1-latest-news/2021-provocative-behavior-pertinent-concerns-over-the-burning-of-korans.html

American policy, at the highest levels of state, is specifically and deliberately designed to kill, despoil, dispossess, insult and outrage Muslims, in operations all over the world. That's what the Terror War is all about. We have spent more than $3 trillion burning Korans -- and their readers -- in the last decade. This policy has been pushed, championed and cheered by virtually the entire bipartisan political and media establishments -- and by much of the religious establishment as well.

Yet this week we have been treated to the bleakly comic sight of the avatars of these very establishments expressing their deeply humanitarian concerns -- and their nostril-flaring moral outrage -- over the plans of a Florida religious crank to publicly burn a few Korans on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. These societal leaders -- such as Gen. David Petraeus and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton -- sternly warn us that such an act will inevitably produce violent blowback, stoke Islamic extremism and exacerbate anti-American feeling in the Muslim world.

Gen. Petraeus was admirably forthright about the effects such actions produce:

"We’re concerned that the images from the burning of a Quran would be used in the same way that extremists used images from Abu Ghraib — that they would in a sense be indelible," Petraeus told NBC’s Brian Williams. "They would be used by those who wish us ill, to incite violence and to enflame public opinion against us and against our mission here in Afghanistan, as well as our missions undoubtedly around the world."

These concerns are, of course, pertinent, and it is good to see them aired so prominently. However, one wonders about the ultimate effectiveness of such messages, coming as they do from these particular messengers.

For example, how many Korans have been burned in the countless civilian houses and institutions destroyed in attacks under Petraeus' command in both Iraq and Afghanistan? Hundreds of Korans? Thousands of Korans? Tens of thousands of Korans? (Along with their eviscerated owners, of course.)

How many Korans have been burned in the destruction of civilian houses by missiles fired in the Obama Administration's ruthless, ever-expanding -- and entirely illegal -- drone war in Pakistan?

Take this story, reported just yesterday by Jason Ditz at Antiwar.com: Children Among 24 Killed as US Drone Strikes Rock Pakistan.

The attacks destroyed three homes in North Waziristan as well as a car. The children were in a home near one of the targeted homes which was also damaged in the blast. The US has launched a number of drone strikes over the past several days, but there has been no indication that any "high value" targets were killed and most of the dead appear to be local tribesmen who are nominally affiliated with militant factions.

Three homes in this single raid (one of dozens now striking homes in Pakistan every month): how many Korans were burned, do you think? At least three, and probably more. And then there are the dead children, of course. One wonders if the fact (not just the "images") of these dead children -- and the thousands of other innocent children whose bodies have been gutted, beheaded, gashed in or torn to shreds by American missiles, bombs and bullets fired at the order of General David Petraeus and Barack Obama and all their worthy predecessors whose noble work they are so assiduously continuing -- will be "used by those who wish us ill, to incite violence and to enflame public opinion against us and against our mission here in Afghanistan, as well as our missions undoubtedly around the world"?

One wonders if the actual burning and slaughtering of actual human beings in the Muslim world -- covertly and overtly, in country after country, day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year -- by the highest, most honored, respected and powerful worthies of American society might, just possibly, incite more violence and ill will against us than the burning of a few books by a marginal, powerless goober down in Florida.

But let us not spoil the nice little moral bubble bath our bloodstained leaders are giving themselves. They do enjoy it so much.

Last night on "The Daily Show," Jon Stewart had a field day mocking Florida pastor Terry Jones for organizing an "International Burn the Koran Day" on the upcoming ninth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Stewart mocked everything about Jones's planned torching of the Quran, including his use of the word "international" in the title and his ridiculous mustache. He also pointed out that various news outlets had compared the media firestorm around the event to that of the proposed "Ground Zero Mosque." Stewart noted the ridiculousness of the comparison, saying, "a Christian is an extremist for burning the Quran, and a Muslim is an extremist for reading from it."

To get some perspective on the situation, Stewart turned to John Oliver, who called Jones a "radical, hate-spewing extremist."

"This man is f***ing crazy," Oliver said. "He doesn't represent Christianity any more than "Dr. Laura represents the United Negro College Fund."

Oliver and Stewart preceded to have a raucous debate about religion, prompting both men to read excerpts from their holy books: the Bible and the "Jewish manual" which happens to be "Portnoy's Complaint" by Philip Roth.
