Squatting to become a criminal offencehttp://www.solicitorsjournal.com/story.asp?sectioncode=2&storycode=17961&c=118 March 2011
'Ken Clarke, the justice secretary, is to make squatting a criminal offence for the first time, according to reports in the Daily Telegraph.
A "senior Whitehall source" told the newspaper that Clarke had made changing the law on squatting a priority because he has "had enough of seeing hard-working homeowners battle to get squatters out".
Clarke is reported to be aiming to have the new law introduced into parliament next year. The maximum penalty would include a custodial sentence.
One recent high-profile case of squatting involved an occupation by the 'Really Free School' of a £6m house in London owned by Guy Ritchie, the film director.
However, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Justice said this afternoon that the government was merely "considering whether we can strengthen the law, or its enforcement, to help homeowners protect their property".
She went on: "Any person who occupies a property as a trespasser and refuses to leave after being asked to by the resident homeowner is committing an offence and, if found guilty, faces up to six months in prison." ------------------------------------------------------------------------
The talk on the Blogs is, that this is because of the BIG BIG, Long Hot SUMMER, AUTUMN, and extra-long and deep WINTER of discontent due, and starting .... NOW!
"
And moving into first place at the first corner it's the pale horse of general stoppages and homelessness ... etc"
I was once a squatter. I would say I did it as a matter of survival. I didn't want to live on my own and the only way for that to be achieved was communal which was the usual form of life for squatters.
A lot of the housing associations pre-1990's were formed by people who had been squatters, as were many housing Co-ops, many still in perfect working order, in their own way, to this day.
The Synchronised Enforcing of ILLEGALITY laws across the EMA means only one thing. It's the New Order in Action. And 80% of people are obliged to love it. Remember, 79.999% of people don't see beyond the end of their nose unless it's with blind hatred, ignorance and rage, and the majority by far still think that a Full Frontal Lobotomy is a new Kind of special provision to help people both young and old cope with the prospects of 'Early Retirement.'
