Bogus Claim: Japan Earthquake Won't Trigger a California Quake

An unfounded scientific assertion by a nonscientist has swept across the Web like a tsunami over the past few days. In an article in Newsweek, writer Simon Winchester claimed that the 9.0-magnitude Japan earthquake, following close on the heels of recent quakes in New Zealand and Chile, has ratcheted up the chances of a catastrophic seismic event striking in California.

In his article, "The Scariest Earthquake Is Yet to Come," Winchester pointed out that all three of those recent earthquakes occurred along faults on the edge of the Pacific Plate — the giant tectonic puzzle piece under the Pacific Ocean — and that this also butts up against the North American plate along the San Andreas Fault.

"[A] significant event on one side of a major tectonic plate is often … followed some weeks or months later by another on the plate’s far side," he wrote. "Now there have been catastrophic events at three corners of the Pacific Plate — one in the northwest, on Friday; one in the southwest, last month; one in the southeast, last year. That leaves just one corner unaffected — the northeast. And the fault line in the northeast of the Pacific Plate is the San Andreas Fault, underpinning the city of San Francisco."

Winchester claimed that the geological community is "very apprehensive" about these earthquakes triggering a massive California quake. Life's Little Mysteries, a sister site to LiveScience, checked that claim with a panel of geophysicists.

"There is no evidence for a connection between all of the Pacific Rim earthquakes," Nathan Bangs, a geophysicist who studies tectonic processes at the University of Texas Institute for Geophysics, told Life's Little Mysteries. "I don't know what the basis is for the statements and implications in the Newsweek article, but there is no evidence that there is a link."

Operation Odyssey Dawn is underway in North Africa...

Stanley Kubrick and Arthur Clarke collaborated on 2001; a space odyssey.  Clarke wrote a book and Kubrick made a film.  The story is actually an expansion on a short story Clarke wrote in the early 50's titled The Sentinel.  In that story, a team of explorers on the moon find a "device".  It is a pyramid inside a spherical force-field.

sen·ti·nel  (snt-nl) n. 1. To watch over as a guard. 2. To provide with a guard. 3. To post as a guard.

"...It was set here upon it's mountain before life had emerged from the seas of Earth.

When our world was half it's present age, something from the stars swept through the Solar System, left this token of it's passage, and went again upon it's way.  Until we destroyed it, that machine was still fulfilling the purpose of it's builders; and as to that purpose, here is my guess.

...Think of such civilizations, far back in time against the fading afterglow of Creation, masters of a Universe so young that life as yet had come only to a handful of worlds.  Theirs would have been a loneliness we cannot imagine, the loneliness of gods looking out across infinity and finding none to share their thoughts.

Those wanderers must have looked on Earth, circling safely in the narrow zone between fire and ice, and must have guessedthat it was the favouriteof the Sun's children.  Here, in the distant future, would be intelligence; but there were countless stars before them still, and theymight never come this way again.

So they left a sentinel, one of millions they have scattered throughout the universe, watching over all worlds with the promise of life.

...Now it's signals have ceased, and those whose duty it is will be turning their minds upon the Earth.  Perhaps they wish to help our infant civilisation.  But they must be very, very old, and the old are often insanely jealous of the young.

I do not think we will have to wait for long."

One year later the aliens arrived in Clarke's sci-fi classic Childhood's End.  The "Overlords" arrive and use their overwhelming technology to force humanity into an age of peace.  When the humans finally get to see this ancient race of beings who arrived to help us evolve are described as such...

"It was a tribute to the Overlords' psychology, and to their careful years of preparation, that only a few people fainted.  Yet there could have been fewer still, anywhere in the world, who did not feel the ancient terror brush for one awful instant against their minds before reason banished it forever.

There was no mistake.  The leathery wings, the little horns, the barbed tail- all were there.  The most terrible of all legends had come to life, out of the unknown past.  Yet now it stood smiling, in ebony majesty, with the sunlight upon its tremendous body, and with a human child resting trustfully on either arm."

The first monolith in 2001 appears at the mouth of a cave.  It is where the first communal fires would be.  The implication being that controlling fire is a big step in evolution.  And, looking into it changed the way we thought.  Just as the realization that tools could be used changed the way we saw the world.  Then a monolith is found on the moon.  This is the sentinel monolith.  The aliens now know that we have reached a new evolution.  Our ability to reach the monolith near Jupiter is another step.  At this point, our alien guides show us how to become gods by creating stars.  The new star seen from earth ushers in a new age of peace.

Watchmen is the same story.  Dr. Manhattan is man.  He is the next evolution.  He creates his own star...

He then goes off to "create some life of his own".  He has become a god.  And the world is entered into a new age of peace.

Now, if you go and look at Hogue's 1987 book as a timeline, you see that there is great catastrophe(natural and man-made) and then a new spirituality arises and mankind moves forward into Aquarius and our destiny to meet other lifeforms on other worlds.

Knowing is also the same story.  The world is about to end.  Aliens arrive, but they only take the children(who have heard the call, or evolved) to safety on a new world.

Pandorum...Earth is dead and the last humans are heading to a new world.

Avatar the earth is dying and the ignorant and violent humans are trying to steal resources from another world.  A few humans evolve and fight for the new world.

Both of those stories are similar to the 1951 classic...When Worlds Collide.  A rogue star is coming and will destroy earth.  A group of scientists work on a project to save a few humans by sending them to a planet orbiting the star.  Another new world.

In 2008, I decided to take a closer look at the 2012 "Doomsdate".  I have followed several doomsday predictions in the course of my life.  It's a topic I find interesting.  May 1988... 5/5/2000...5/2003(Planet X)...several others.  But, I could see there was something different about 2012.  It has received more hype across the entire spectrum of media than any other doomsdate I have encountered.  I can remember seeing it mentioned in 1995 on a History Channel special.  That's around the same time as the first book about the Mayan Long Count calendar and the Dresden Codex came out.

While I was collecting clips of 2012 to show the diverse sources hyping the topic, the second installment of Zeitgeist came out.  I liked the video quite a first.  Then someone told me it was propaganda for Theosophy and I went about trying to debunk that idea.  What I discovered was that Zeitgeist 1 & 2 have some really strange connections to Theosophy and 2012.  I found it "interesting" that after being attacked on the first film for being a Theosophist, he would include Jiddu Krishnamurti in his second film.  JK was raised by the Theosophical Society to be the "vessel for Maitreya" or the next Buddha/Messiah.  And, then his answer for society comes from the Venus Project...Venus being a central theme in Theosophy.

I also noticed that the first Zeitgeist spends a lot of time discussing the "Precession of the Equinoxes" and it's significance to the Winter Solstice.  12/21 is the Solstice...12/21/2012 is the end of time, the completion of a great cycle.  Watch any 2012 "documentary" and you will see mention of the precession.

In his 1987 book, John Hogue doesn't mention 2012 even once.  He is more concerned about the "planetary alignment" of 5/5/2000.  He dedicates an entire section to "earth changes" and even shows a diagram of the shifting of the magnetic pole and the planet on it's axis.  The magnetic pole stuff is all over the news lately.  But, 5/5/2000 every planet lined up on the other side of the sun from the Earth and NOTHING happened...much to John Hogue's surprise...or maybe not.  Roll Eyes

Hogue is now on every Nostradamus special that attempts to link the prophet with 2012... The Lost Book of Nostradamus and Nostradamus 2012 both feature Hogue as an "expert".  Interestingly enough Hogue brags on his website that he is a member of the "Zero Population Growth Society".

In his 1987 book, Hogue mentions that Nostradamus predicted the arrival of a religious leader.  Hogues lists possible candidates for the fulfillment of that prophecy.  One of them is Jiddu Krishnamurti...

And one of the corresponding prophecies is from Helena Blavatsky...

The Number 1 supporter of "Maitreya" these days is Benjamin Creme and Share International...

According to Alice Bailey the symbol at the bottom of Creme's book should have a dot at the center and then it would represent the "New Age".  Foster Bailey later added a star...

"This symbol indicates some of the significant forces and deeper factors now increasingly operating as the new age advances."

Foster Bailey

And, of course, Creme has been talking about a "star heralding the return of Maitreya"...he even paid to air this commercial on CNN...

The 'star' that heralds Maitreya's emergence

Then, you have this from Nostradamus 2012... (3:50)

Nostradamus 2012 9-11. History Channel. HQ

Stars, Stars, Stars...Arthur Clarke had a story called The Star...humans find a dark planet circling a dead star.  There is a beacon on the planet and when the earthlings investigate they find a vault with the history of a race of intelligent beings from another planet around the now dead star.  Before it died, the star exploded and killed the intelligent civilization.  Before their destruction they committed themselves to building this vault.  On the way home, the commander of the mission realizes that the star exploded around the time Jesus was born and may have been the star that the "wise men" followed...and the birth of a religion that caused a lot of misery on earth(That's in the story, go read it for yourself).

There's even more to this...a lot more.

This book came out the same year as Watchmen(novel).  See the triangle in circle and the eye?

What does he think about Aquarius?

Watchmen also shares a symbol with 2010...the two suns.

This is from an episode of 30 Rock on NBC.  Shortly after this symbol is seen, we have a sermon of "Judgement" from a minister at Kenneth's church which happens to have "Trinity" in it's name.  The triangle in circle is recognized by several religions as representing a "trinity".  The entire episode pretty much demonizes every organized religion.  It also made practitioners seem ignorant or dishonest.  There is no room for religion in the New Age.  Unless it's astrology or alchemy or some form of paganism.

The History Channel will NEVER show you Building 7 collapsing and allow a "Truther" to comment.  They will let anyone, at all, comment on 2012 or aliens.  There is a guy in Nostradamus 2012 who mentions theories about Planet X...

There is a "Con" being perpetrated...figuring out the angles isn't as easy as one might suspect.

8  General / General Discussion / Your Friends and Family Are Probably Iodine Deficient...Sea Salt on: March 14, 2011, 12:18:43 pm
Sea Salt is not iodized.  Many people have switched to sea salt for health reasons, which is great.

But, it also may means that they have not replaced that source of Iodine.

It's important to point this out without sounding alarmist about the Japanese Nuclear meltdown.
Deficiency illnesses in industrialized countries? Yes, they occur, at least when we’re talking about the trace element iodine. Iodine was first isolated in 1811, from the ashes of marine algae. The body requires between 150 and 200 micrograms of this element daily in order to produce the thyroid hormones. These hormones control oxygen consumption and heat production, and affect many other bodily functions — from growth to the central nervous system. If there is insufficient iodine, the first signs of a thyroid problem often soon follow, including swollen eyelids, or a feeling of fatigue and lack of motivation.

As the illness progresses, a goiter — referred to as a “struma” by physicians — can develop. It’s the clearest, most visible result of iodine deficiency, which is the cause of nine out of ten goiter cases. The only effective preventive measure against iodine deficiency is to provide supplements of the element. But that isn’t always easy in a normal diet. The last ice age washed the element out and into the sea. As a result, most natural foods are low in iodine, except for seafood, fish, and algae.

Most people feel somewhat fatigued, so suggesting a new source of iodine doesn't sound paranoid.

Just saying that if you approach people about getting iodine, they may react as Alex described on the show today...they laugh at you for being a "paranoid conspiracy theorist".

You don't even have to mention "radiation" when suggesting people increase their iodine...who wants a goiter?

I just think it's important we let everyone know they should get some iodine in their thyroid...especially since there is increased radiation in the atmosphere.
